Lighting AZ Purple

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. To raise awareness, Governor Ducey lights the State Capitol Dome purple to launch the Lighting Arizona Purple campaign.  The Lighting Arizona Purple campaign encourages all Arizonans to join the Governor in taking a stance against domestic violence by learning about the issue and by lighting their own homes purple. This year’s Lighting Arizona Purple event is sponsored by Arizona-based PetSmart Charities and the Home Depot.

PetSmart Charities is committed to supporting the human-animal bond by connecting people and pets. As the leading funder of animal welfare, PetSmart Charities provides funding to nonprofit organizations, such as domestic violence shelters, to help keep pets and the people who love them together. By helping organizations provide resources and access to care to keep pets in their homes, we can reduce shelter intake and prevent pet homelessness.

Additionally the Home Depot, in partnership with the Arizona Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family, will be selling Purple Light Bulbs to their customers at all Arizona store locations.  A percentage from each sale will go to support the Domestic Violence Prevention Fund established through the Governor’s Office.  The GOYFF is also going to provide outreach materials so that victims of this terrible crime can be connected to help and resources.  Together Arizona’s can join with the Governor and say, “NO MORE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.”
